Chakra And Acupressure System of Yoga

In the system of Yoga, there are 108 Marma Points related to the balance and health of the physical body as given through the “energetic” or electromagnetic blueprint of the human being. Through the relationships of these points, all functions and the form of the body are physically and energetically expressed*. Many of these points have a powerful and direct effect upon the nervous system and are therefore helpful points of focus for one's meditation. Below is a simple guide to ## points on the body and the deeper nerve centers they influence using the Chakra system. Imagine each of these 7 centers and related points as different layers or levels of our experience, function, form and expression. Beginning with the more gross aspects, the first and lower 3 Chakras represent the physical and physiological processes of our human form. The 4th Chakra is a bridge, the space between the physical and non-physical, and the area of transcendental awareness. From this place much love and healing can be created. In the higher 3 Chakras you access the subtle nature of the human being, regarding our mental and emotional operations as well as our alignment with any higher or Divine aspect of our experiences.

As a meditation, you may spend time focusing on any of these Chakras. (For example, the Heart Cleansing meditation will bring focus to the 4th Chakra.) Using breath awareness, visualization, or even just feeling into these physical locations will assist in the processing of energies that this center is responsible for. At first, thoughts, sensations and feelings will arise. With time, silence and clarity will arise and you will feel an opening and greater flow of energy moving through these spaces. Always be mindful of the results without attachment. Watch the effects of your practice as you continue throughout your day. Give yourself rest from the practice as it feels good!

Below are the 7 Chakras presented in a simple description of location and regulatory function as given by the system of Yoga. This is only one representation of the human energy system, and you may feel your energy to be varied from what is given. There are other systems that represent similar holistic representations of our human being, which I encourage you to explore as you feel called! Using the 7 Chakras of Yoga, you will begin to experience a deeper connection to your own energy and your own being!
